Residence card: working as a freelancer in Germany?

Frage

I do need some clarification about becoming a freelancer. I have a residence card (non-permanent) as the spouse of a permanent resident. We are both third country citizens. I worked for 3,5 years here in Germany for a corporation, therefore I have an ID number and a tax number. Can I use the tax number for my freelance business? Do I need to make a special registration with the Tax Office? I do not anticipate exceeding 17.500 Euro in the current calendar year.

Antwort

Before starting your business in Germany, we recommend to take contact with a private tax advisor. The tax advisor will also notify you, if you can use your current ID and tax number for your future independent activity.
