French Nationality: Starting up in Germany?

Frage

I am wondering many things about my situation: French graduated student, I want to have a first work experience in Berlin, for a few months, one year maximum. I have a french SIRET to work as a freelance. Is it enough to be right with the German laws? What I have to do to be paid by foreign (German) clients?

Antwort

Generally, all commercial businesses established in Germany have to notify the local trade Office (Gewerbeanzeige) irrespective of their legal form. For an overview of company forms in Germany, please see Germany Trade & Invest's Investment Guide online: www.gtai.com/company-forms

Service providers from other EU/EEA countries can involve the local "Point of Single Contact" to individually clarify, if their (freelance) activity requires a trade office notification and/or other notifications, licenses and registrations. The website of the Point of Single Contact in Berlin is www.ea.berlin.de

Start-ups in Berlin can also contact the Starter Centre of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Berlin for assistance with regard to business establishment:
